heardofdenial I hope to eventually have a post which goes through the different arcs in FAKE chronologically (or as best I can do so considering some of the side stories jump about a lot), but for the canon blind, here's some basic stuff to know about Ryo.
Historical Details
- His name is actually Randy Maclean. However, his partner Dee and his adopted son Bikky, both figure out he's half Japanese and decide to use his Japanese name, Ryo. If he doesn't know you, he will probably use Randy as compared to Ryo.
- At age 18, his parents were murdered and framed. The going theory for most of the series is that drugs were maybe planted on them, though it's later found that the drugs, cocaine, was smuggled into the country as art pieces. Ryo's parents, being art dealers, literally collected the wrong box and were killed. Their death is his impetus to become a cop
- Ryo works as a cop in New York at the beginning of the series (and probably for a long time if implications are correct)
- For the entirety of the series, he is literally in denial about being gay. A quote in the first chapter from him, after his partner asks if Ryo will love him is "On the other hand, I better stop obsessing about his orientation. If I focus too much on him, I'm going to have to finally admit some stuff about myself."
- His age does not appear to be directly mentioned within the manga, but various comments and sources put him in his late twenties or early thirties
- His family pre-canon, post-parents death is several members of the family he never speaks with, and the two who took him in; Elena and Rick (his father's sister and her husband)
- His family once canon begins are Dee (his work partner, and the guy trying to convince him he loves him), Bikky (adopted son) and Carol (Bikky's girlfriend)
- Ryo is a trained sniper, and can make basic bombs

- Generally Ryo is an extremely calm, accepting man, who acts as father or friend to many within the series
- He does have a temper, sadly, though it usually shows around Dee or Bikky and generally relates to them doing things they shouldn't (like Bikky stealing his taser, or Dee not listening when he is trying to be serious)
- He's smart about people - unless those people are very close to him (or trying to say they like him)
- Very loyal
- Compassionate
